2009 CCC Junior Open gets under way.
In the under 14s qualifying event held at the Matchroom on 28th March, West Wales once again came out on top. The two qualifiers for the under 14s final wer Ieuan Davies (Morriston) and James Allen (Llanelli). The draw for the under 18s event is now available and can be viewed by clicking here. Former professional Michael White and Welsh Junior Pot Black Champion, Duane Jones will be among the favourites for the £200 first prize.


2009 Summer Schools
Following a very successful first year, Terry Griffiths is introducing a second suite of Matchroom Summer School for all age groups and abilities in 2009 (dates shown at bottom of this page).

This excellent opportunity to enjoy top level snooker coaching at one of the best clubs in the country will be open to all members and visitors. Click here to find out more.


League Season gets under way
The 2008/9 Llanelli League season gets underway on Wednesday 17th September. After winning the double last year, Matchroom A will find it a more difficult challenge this year has they have been dealt with severely by the handicapping committee. New signings Gavin Pantall (Matchroom A) and Paul Thomas (Matchroom B) will make our side stronger. Matchroom B look like one of the favourites to be promoted from Division 2, but will need to avoid a repeat of last season's slow start. See Matchroom A fixtures by clicking here. Hunt sees off the pack
Nick Hunt carries off the coveted first prize in the Matchroom's Spring Round Robin competition. Nick was the form horse in the knock out stages and enjoyed wins over much fancied Steve Ellis and Richard Rees on his way to winning the final (3-1). Special mentions for junior members Shaun Keenan and Chris Davies who were the losing semi finalists. Thanks to all members for their support.


Summer Schools attract interest from around the globe.
The Terry Griffiths Matchroom summer schools look set to get underway this summer. Interest has been steady and minimum numbers have been exceeded. meaning at least one of the weeks will run this summer. Firm interest to date has come from all over the UK and from Lithuania! Keenan and Nick well in the Hunt
Junior club member Shaun Keenan and Loughor legend Mick Hunt are the pace setters in the Matchroom's ongoing Spring Round Robin event. Jamie Clarke wins Welsh Under 16 Championship
Matchroom player of Distinction, Jamie Clarke (13) was the local hero in the WBSA Under 16s Championship held at the Matchroom on Sunday 20th April. Home advantage added some pressure for Jamie, but he took this in his stride on his way to a victory that guaranteed him a place in the Welsh Under 16 Home International team as the number 2 ranked player overall. On his way to the final Jamie overcame Cardiff's Kishan Hirani at the quarter final stage and secured a notable 2-1 victory over the runaway number 1 under 16 player this year, Duane Jones from Aberdare. The final was a one-sided affair with Jamie out potting Jak Jones from Cwmbran. This victory allowed Jamie to jump from 5 to 2 in the end of season rankings. Well done Jamie!


Jamie and Jamie fly the flag for Llanelli
Jamie Clarke (under 14s) and Jamie Tudor (under 18s) will represent Llanelli in the finals of the first ever Carmarthenshire County Council Snooker Junior Open. Up against the two Sospan potters will be Ieuan Davies and Duane Jones respectively. The finals will be played at the Terry Griffiths Matchroom on Wednesday 7th May (18:30). Both matches will be played over the best of 5 frames and there will be a 1 frame play off between the under 14 and under 18 champions. This one frame play off will be held in the fantastic Matchroom facility and will be followed by a presentation and buffet for players, guests and supporters. All members and visitors are welcome.


Matchroom A win Llanelli League title
The 'A' team at the Matchroom have rounded off a fantastic league season as Llanelli and District Division 1 champions. This is the first time the Matchroom have won this title for 5 years. Wayne Griffiths, Mark Hughes, Ricky Jones, Jamie Clarke, Stuart Kenyon, Gary Baker, Nev Lewis, Kieran Elliott and captain John Pellew have been runaway leaders from half way through this year's campaign. They will also compete in the semi finals of the league's knockout cup event. Well done to all players.


2008 Spring Round Robin Kicks Off!
The Matchroom are pleased to announce the draw for the 2008 Spring Round Robin competition. The full draw and score sheets are available by clicking here. The competition will run along similar lines as last year and the first round of matches will start on 24th March, 2008. Players will be handicapped according to ability and all matches will be played over 5 frames. Entry fees for under 18s will be £10, with adult entry fees at £15. Table charges will be shared between players and all entrants will be guaranteed their entry fees back if they complete all games and attend the finals night to collect their prize.


Darts at the Matchroom
The Llanelli and District darts league will hold its 'Threes' competition at the Matchroom on Monday 14th April, 2008. The event will be held in the pool room and will start at 7:30 p.m.. The pool room will be closed for pool from 6 p.m.. All members and visitors are welcome to attend this event.


Coors arrive at the Matchroom
The Matchroom has changed brewers for the first time in it's 20 year history. After a long relationship with Buckleys/S A Brain, it was decided that the club needed a change in its attempt to keep customers happy. Coors have now been selected as the lead brewers at the Matchroom. Carling, Grolsch and Worthington Bitter are all available as Extra Cold draft options. A whole new range of bottles and cans has also been made available. To launch this new relationship a number of special offers have been introduced. Happy hour prices on draft beers are available between 18:00 and 23:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Available anytime are bucket deals for Coors Lite 330 ml bottles. This offer gives 6 bottles for only £11.00. Also available all day and every day are doubles for £3.00 and a 'variety bucket' for £12.00. The variety bucket, like the Coors bucket deal, offers 6 bottles served on ice. The variety bucket options include Coors Lite, Grolsch bottles, WKD and Reef. Clarke wins through to CCC Under 14 Final
Jamie Clarke has kept local interest alive in the first ever CCC under 14 open snooker championships. Jamie (13) will play Ieuan Davies (11) from Morriston in the best of 5 final on a date to be arranged. Jamie overcame Nathan Davenport from Bala by 2 frames to 1 in his semi final. Ieuan Davies was the victor in his match with Callum Lloyd from Newport. The 22nd March sees the under 18s competition at the Matchroom. All the best under 18s from the country are represented in the field of 32 and we are expecting a feast of snooker (starting at 10 a.m..


Matchroom sponsors Llanelli & District Monday night darts league
The Terry Griffiths Matchroom is branching out into the darts market. The club intends to set itself up as one of the leading darts venues in the area. To make a splash in the darts market, the Matchroom has agreed to sponsor the Llanelli & District Monday night Darts league. All the league's competitions will be held at the Matchroom and it is hoped that this will attract other events to the club. League Chairman, Mark Bowler, said "We are delighted to have paired up with the Matchroom for the coming season. We are excited about the new venue and we intend to work with Matchroom to bring bigger and better darts events to the town". The first competition of the year, the Pairs Championships, will be held at the Matchroom on the evening of Monday 3rd March. After the great success of last year's Summer Round Robin, the Matchroom are pleased to announce details of the 2008 Spring Round Robin competition. Matthew Stevens returns to the Matchroom
The Matchroom is very pleased to announce that Welsh snooker star Matthew Stevens has made the club his regular practice venue for the foreseeable future. Members can see Matthew playing at the club on most days in preparation for upcoming ranking events.


WBSA Junior events come to the Matchroom
The Terry Griffiths Matchroom has made a long awaited return as a venue for WBSA junior events. Two events will be held at the club in the coming months. WBSA ranking event number 3 for the under 14 age group will be held at the club on Sunday 17th February. On Sunday 20th April the WBSA Under 16 Championships will be held at the Matchroom. Both events promise to have a good turn out and Wales' young stars of the future will be on show. Both events start at 10 a.m. and tables will be made available to members from approx. 1 p.m.. Early opening for school holidays set to continue
The Matchroom will open it's doors at 10 a.m. for all members during the upcoming half term and Easter Holidays. The dates in question for the early opening will be between 11th-15th February and 24th March - 4th April respectively.


Burry Port Pair win 2007 TGM Lads and Dads
Father and son, Tony and Darren Rees from Burry Port proved too strong for the field in this year's TGM Lads and Dads competition. They were 2-1 victors over Gerald and Rhys Henley in a close fought final. Tony and Darren will now get tickets and back stage passes to the final of the 2008 Welsh Open final in Newport this coming February.

Carmarthenshire Junior Snooker Open at the Matchroom
The Terry Griffiths Matchroom is pleased to announce that it will hold the 2008 Carmarthenshire Junior Snooker Open tournaments in March, 2008. There will be two competitions - one for under 14s and one for under 18s. There will be cash prizes and the chance to win one to one coaching with Terry Griffiths.

Jamie Clarke wins 2007 Summer Round Robin
Welsh under 16 international Jamie Clarke is the 2007 Matchroom Round Robin champion. He defeated current Welsh Amateur champion Phil Williams in the handicapped final by 3 frames to nil. Jamie received £125, a ticket for the Mark Williams exhibition and a chance to play Mark on the evening (TBC).


Dates finalised for 2007 Summer Round Robin
Welsh under 16 international Jamie Clarke and Welsh Amateur champion Phil Williams will be joined in the semi finals of this year's Matchroom Round Robin by Garry Baker and Paul Thomas.

Semi finals will be played at 19:00 on Monday 15th October and the finals night will be at 19:00 on Monday 22nd October.

Would ALL players please note that you must be present for the finals night to be eligible to collect your cash prize. Those who do not attend will not receive a prize.


Mark J Williams to play at the Matchroom
SNOOKER ace Mark Williams is to play another exhibition at the Terry Griffiths Matchroom. The game’s popular player will appear at a special event to be held next month. The former world champion and world number 1 will cue up against club members and competition winners during the crowd pulling event in the 100 seater Matchroom. The event is expected to be a rapid sell out.

Williams and Clarke win round robin qualifier groups
Matchroom junior and Player of Distinction member, Jamie Clarke was in illustrious company when he joined current Welsh Amateur champion, Phil Williams at the top of their respective qualifying groups for the Matchroom Summer Round Robin, 2007. There were two other automatic qualifiers from each group, with players finishing 4 - 7 in each group playing off for a wild card into one of two remaining places in the last eight.

Jamie Clarke to represent Wales at Home Internationals
Matchroom junior and Player of Distinction member, Jamie Clarke (12) has been selected to represent Wales at the Home Internationals in Prestatyn, North Wales. He will join up with the rest of the Welsh team for matches that will take place between 9th and 14th September, 2007.

Phil Williams becomes Welsh Amateur Champion
Matchroom member Phil Williams lifted the Welsh Amateur Championship in Morriston on 15th July, 2007. Ex-professional Williams defeated two fellow ex-professionals on his way to lifting the very competitive national amateur title. He is now eligible to represent Wales at the 2007 IBSF World Amateur Championships.

Elliot and Pellew make early running in the Round Robin
Eleven year old Kieran Elliot and 50++ year old John Pellew are making the early running in the 2007 Matchroom Summer Round Robin. Both players have only lost one game so far and lead their respective groups after 6 weeks.

Terry Griffiths awarded OBE
Matchroom owner and ex- world champion Terry Griffiths was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours announced on Saturday 16th June, 2007. The honour was awarded in recognition of Terry's services to the sport of snooker.
