Adrian Gower wins Junior Winter Round Robin event
Seventeen year old Adrian Gower from Pwll topped the ranking list at the end of the 2006 Junior Winter Round Robin tournament at the Matchroom. The event had been played every Sunday since the beginning of September with ranking points available for those reaching the quarter finals or better.
Former Glan Y Mor pupil Gower, overcame stiff competition from over 70 young players. Closest players in the overall ranking were Dafen's Greg Lee and Daniel Bowen from Llwynhendy who finished second and third respectively.
Adrian was awarded two weeks of unlimited free practice at the Matchroom for his prize and was seeded number one in a special knock out competition that was held for the top 8 finishers in the winter ranking list.
His number one seeding however did not prevent him from falling at the first hurdle in the knock out competition. The competition was eventually won by Morfa's Luke Powell. Luke did fantastically well to win this competition off a handicap of 25. In an entertaining final, Luke overcame Daniel Bowen by two frames to one.
Luke took home a cash prize of £75 for his victory. Luke was one of four players who were selected for a trip to the Welsh Open in Newport as a result of their standings in the overall ranking list.
The 2007 spring handicap tournament is now underway at the Matchroom. This new tournament will run every Sunday until 3rd June, 2007. During the summer months the competitions will be put on hold as structured coaching will be offered every Sunday morning.
